The sake of Mie

Legend has it that more than 2000 years ago the goddess Amaterasu Omikami took up residence in the Mie prefecture, also called “Miketsukuni”: a land with a sumptuous environment and rich in food products. Mie has 34 sake breweries, each with its own brewing style, adapted to the local food culture and climate. The prefecture also has the chance to benefit from an abundant source of water from the rainy eastern coast of the Kii Peninsula, which places Mie’s sake at the centre of the natural water cycle.
